Silhouette of crowd facing a band performing on stage

Nothing says summer in L.A. like a free music festival, and this weekend we once again have more than one to choose from. Just up Sunset Blvd. from DTLA there’s EPR, a.k.a. Echo Park Rising, a three day street festival packed with great bands. Friday headliners include Long Beach’s Dengue Fever. You may remember their most well-known song as the endless driving music in Bill Murray’s Broken Flowers (think psychedelic afro funk meets Cambodian pop). Saturday has something like 100 acts on the schedule between Alvarado and Echo Park, so you might want to clear your calendar, break out the magnifying glass and check out those buzz bands with the really tiny fonts. Of course, if instead you want to truck all the way to the West Side on Saturday, KCRW is hosting their last free Sound in Focus concert of the summer at the Annenberg Space for Photography. There are a total of 2 bands playing this bill. The headliners will be that other Long Beach sensation, Cold War Kids, with special guests, Other Lives. RSVP – and arrive early – if you want to get in.
