Fast track to the beach!

September 28, 2014

train on rail track

Let’s face it. No matter how much fun city living can be, sometimes you just need a beach day. Well, soon you will be able to enjoy downtown living and easy beach access with the new expo line to Santa Monica. The Transportation System has started Phase II of the expo line to the beach, a tremendous feat of sustainable public transit, stretching from Pasadena all the way to Santa Monica.

The Exposition Light Rail Project estimates the 15 mile journey from Downtown to Santa Monica will only take about 45 minutes – even during peak late-afternoon traffic! Santa Monica will have three stations, the last stop landing you just a couple blocks from the beach at 4th and Colorado. Hello, Third Street Promenade!

The Downtown 7th Street Metro stop at Flower is only a short walk from Eighth and Grand. With only a few stops between the financial district and the coast, who couldn’t use a beach day every now and then?

Construction began in 2012 and is scheduled to be completed in 2015. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and our beach towels ready.

The ocean beckons.
